Description A lot of the heroes in this series are softies, and while Alva can shield herself with solid air, she gets no special protection against anything else. She can get papercuts, and is affected by weapons and physical force just like anyone else. It makes her (and the other gals) really vulnerable and glass cannon-ish, which I feel is right for this series because there is a theme here satirizing the skimpy nearly-nude outfits of super-heroines. Here? Little to no outfits and deal with it. Coffeeboss hit it on the head when he said to me, "I don't see the nudity, all I feel is sorry for them."

The men in this series are dressed, wear cool costumes, and get their powers from darkness and that is a perfect contrast and counter-point to the ladies, and also another part of this satire of comic-book superheroes. Then again, I get this feeling that is how comic books typically treated women heroes over the years, as eye candy. When they are forced to be nude or nearly-nude eye candy, I see them and their actions in a totally different light, and that is the point.

There is also another major fact on the difference between female and male powers coming out in the next series that explains things more, and it relates to the Greek god nude statue comparison. More on that later in the follow-up series.

If it were me and I were a woman in a "normal" (not this) superhero world? Ditch the thong, put on some bulletproof body armor, cut the hair short, put on some padding, and wear a freaking helmet and some eye protection before I take to the skies. Alva's dressed-up "camo" outfit is a little like that, really complex and military style and the outfit she "wants" to wear is her power didn't rely on absorbing sunlight directly through the skin. Another contrast, done on purpose.

But even through all I put them through, the gals still step up and prove me wrong. Despite being forced to not wear much and be 100% vulnerable while tossing around live hand grenades, they can still be heroes and do the right thing. In a sense, the nudity of the gals is kinda a metaphor for feeling dis-empowered and stripped of dignity in today's world; and still being able to step up, do the right thing, be a hero, and make a difference.

Nude Greek goddess hero statue still kicking ass time.
