That hurts. God that hurts. But you know what? I feel that is how it would be given this world.
The problem with today's comic books is they pander too much to the readers like some sort of princess tale with trademarked evergreen characters. They don't make anybody angry, they don't upset anyone, and the comic writers write them like they are the adventures of "perfect me and my awesome friends."
Real writers piss people off. Real writers "kill their darlings" as they say. Real writers put how unfair the world is in your face and they don't take it back or apologize. Real writers love their readers enough to hate them.
Without injustice, pain, loss, or conflict there is no story. If Sparrow does not get screwed over in this sequence, I take away any chance she has at redeeming herself and proving them dead wrong later. Will this piss people off? Yes, I hope so. Why I have to explain this to mainstream comic readers disturbs me more, frankly.
