Dagger-Class Jump Carrier
The Imperial Dagger-class Jump Carrier was specifically designed and constructed to rapidly deploy 12-14 TIE fighters (a single Imperial squadron) to an area of interest, unrest, or action.
Equipped with 8 quad point-defense laser cannon turrets and 4 twin light turbolaser cannon turrets, it is also a formidable craft even when separated from its TIE fighter squadron. Laser cannons are equipped to fire as ion cannons if needed. Missiles are held in retractable missile bays. A forward mounted tractor beam is designed to haul in enemy craft.
At 238m in length, it is substantially larger than an Imperial Raider or CR90, smaller than a Quasar-class light carrier or an Arquitens-class vessel, and similar in size to a Pelta-class frigate.
While it carries fewer fighters than a Quasar-class light carrier, its superior armament makes it far better suited to deploying and operating independently and generally does not require escort vessels for protection.
The Dagger-class Jump carrier is designed to operate equally well in space, in atmosphere, and landed on a planet’s surface. With its hangar bay located on its dorsal surface, it can easily launch and receive TIE fighters even while landed. When landed, its dorsal weapons are dedicated to air defense, while its ventral weapons are committed to defending against land-based threats.
During the landing cycle, a TIE fighter pilot has but to steer his craft into the landing area above the landing bay, and then request permission to land. Tractor beams then grip the fighter and quickly lower it through the protective force field and place it onto a dedicated landing pad.
The Dagger-class was developed as part of a modified fleet doctrine which seeks to give the Empire greater flexibility to project power, while decreasing dependence on larger, bulkier, and far more expensive Star Destroyers.
