Star Power — Description

In June, my friend Lauren and I had a weekend of crafting and photos. I had posted a paper moon photo in my Instagram stories a few weeks before, saying I wanted to make one for photos, and Lauren decided we should give it a go! Paper moons were popular souvenir photo set-ups from around 1870-1950, mostly at carnivals, festivals, etc. Paper Moons have made it into pop culture more than a few times over the years, some of my favorite being in the film Paper Moon from 1973 with Ryan and Tatum O'Neal and of course the song "It's Only a Paper Moon" made famous by the one and only Ella Fitzgerald. The Criterion Collection finally released Paper Moon on blu-ray and 4k late last year, and I knew it was the time to finally give this wonderful film a re-watch. I saw it once as a teen, and was immediately smitten with it. It was just as good as I remembered and it gave me inspiration to seek out more paper moon photos to be inspired by.
This moon was constructed with cardboard, duct tape, hot glue, and a whole bunch of hopes and dreams. Seams were removed in photoshop. My friend Julia modelled for us in this very glamourous vintage sequin dress that I thrifted long long ago. One of my fave vintage pieces I own!
