Description: The Cryptoclidus is a genus of Plesiosaur that lived from the mid to late Jurassic Period, 6 species in the genus are known, the fossils originating from England, France, Argentina, and Peru. This Plesiosaur most likely lived in shallower waters, due to its smaller size, which was where it would hunt for small, soft-bodied prey like squid and fish, like all Plesiosaurs, the jaws of the Cryptoclidus were equipped with long, sharp, intermeshing teeth. Some scientists believe that the teeth of Cryptoclidus acted as a way to strain water from its mouth when it catches fish, some believe it also was used to sift through sediments to find buried prey. Studies on the skull of the Crypticlidus show the nares and nasal openings with a distinct size and shape, some scientists speculate that they helped the animal sample the sea water for smells and chemical traces, a trait that could have helped it survive by detecting predators and prey. There are several debates on whether or not the Cryptoclidus or other Plesiosaurs could haul itself onto land like Sea Turtles, some believe that its small size would have allowed it to do so, where it would be safe from predators like Pliosaurs and prehistoric Sharks, others do not agree.

Personal Thoughts: I remember first seeing this Plesiosaur in Walking With Dinosaurs, at the time, most of the depictions of Plesiosaurs had them hauling themselves on land, it even has this feature in the mod. I'm not sure if it would have been able to do so with it being smaller than other Plesiosaurs, but I'll let this one slide since it's based on outdated information. One thing I do like about it that separates it from outdated sources of information, its ability to give live birth underwater in the game, when I was younger I had seen several depictions of it laying eggs like Sea Turtles do, which we now know this didn't happen. I say this is a perfectly well made Plesiosaur for Zoo Tycoon 2, it has no bugs or glitches, the modeling and textures are accurate compared to the original source material, it can breed properly, and it is an absolute must have for a prehistoric zoo or aquarium.
