In ancient history copper was an important metal to humanity, the Bronze age literally named after an alloy containing copper. This is reflected in Cu's installed popularity, featuring collaborations with Zn and Sn, and spamton's initial fame alongside tenna.
However, the fall came. like spamton losing it all, and like the demotion of copper to small change, Cu, too, lost everything. All the fame and fans disappeared, and the world quickly forgot about them. Now, she travels the world, working odd jobs along the way in an effort to find some sort of purpose.
By the time the events of the story start, things are beginning to change. Copper ore is becoming rarer and the metal more valuable - in a similar vein to spamton trying to claw his way back to fame and become NEO, Cu too has started to gain some attention, though mainly just urban legends from those who've seen her.
Any attention is good attention to them though, so it has relit her desire to make it back to fame.
