Meteor 4501 — Description

Meteor 4501, Museum of the American Railroad, Frisco, TX
Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1942 , 4501 was operated by St Louis-San Francisco Railway Company ("Frisco"). It was one of the last steam locomotives built for the Frisco Railroad. This engine lead part of the Harry S Truman's 1948 Presidential whistle stop campaign through Missouri. 4501 was retired about 1952 and donated to the museum in 1964.
The museum currently has one of the largest historic railroad collections in the US. It began as a small exhibit at Fair Park in Dallas in 1963 and was an annual part of the State Fair of Texas. In 1986, it became a permanent museum at it's original site. In 2012, the museum was moved to it's current location at the Frisco Discovery Center.
Guided walking tours are provided of the outdoor train car / locomotive collection.
