Description
Commission for ~TurkeySM ([link] ), who knows a lot about Russian literature (this makes me very happy) :3He had a very interesting idea of drawing ponies as the main characters of "Anna Karenina" and "Crime and Punishment".
Thank you!!! <3
-Twilight as Rodion Raskolnikov
-Pinkie Pie as Prince Stepan "Stiva" Arkadyevich Oblonsky
-Fluttershy as Sonia Marmeladova
-Rarity as Anna Karenina
-Applejack as Konstantin Levin
-Rainbow Dash as...well, I drew her wearing a ceremonial gown (inspired by a picture of one of the Romanovs) and flying next to a russian mythic snake-like or dragon like creature - Zmey Gorinych.

From what I know, Zmey Gorinych is a three-headed dragon. I can't speak for everyone, but for me dragons always were kinda close to lizards. Nice pic. Keep drawing.

Never read Crime and Punishment. Read Anna Karenina. Levin and Stiva are spot on (Stiva's grin is priceless). Levin is great, though I'm wondering what the Kitty pony would be like.
I ain't a brony. But I got friends who are.

Truth be told, I really think that Russia has an incredibly fascinating culture to explore.
The only problem is having their history of poor leadership.

Oh, wonderful. The old 1800 russian classics are such good books.
A Prince Myshkin pony would have been fun to see. Though also sad, unlike some other examples, he didn't deserve what he got.

Very nice! Although I have trouble seeing Twilight chopping up an old lady with an ax under almost any circumstances.

Gorinych, just like from Heroes 3,5 In the Wake of Gods. Well, I didn't know it's a mythic Russian creature, but the expansion was made by Russians, so it seems legit
And Gorinych was an upgrade to Hydra in the game

I've seen it so you can't call me biased. And it wasn't my cup of tea. And my brain nearly imploded when I saw in that list of pictures under the "remove from messages button" MLP and Russian Literature used together. That's comparing apples to oranges.
I fear for the future of western society.

"My little pony" is an American cartoon actually, so I don't understand why you worry about future of western society. And by the way, Russia belongs to the central Europe.
A person for whom I drew this picture struck me by his knowledge about Russian literature. If you have time, you can find his review among the comments to this picture. He knows all the characters and the atmosphere of these novels very well. I can only admire people, especially foreigners, who are interested in Russian culture. I really enjoyed working on this picture. And I don't see anything wrong with making such cross-overs. It is the same as listening to rock-covers of classical music. Someone likes it, someone doesn't, but it doesn't mean that this is bad.
I personally have nothing against it. I fear for society in general, when I see fan art of anthro-ponies with huge breasts, but not when I see a cross-over of the best examples of classical and modern culture.

I unfortunately know what My Little Pony is. I know where Russia is. I know all too well that classical music is being converted into commercial jingles and background music for whatever dumb cartoon. Im sick of it. This is why Im worried about western society. All the art and literature and poetry we had were eaten by cash cows. Even worse is how the citizens are interpreting it.
Look at this! You turned Crime and Punishment into a cartoon about angry faces and video game jokes! This show is just a laser light show with dumb jokes. And now you sprayed it all over books. Whats next? Mixing the communist manifesto with Thomas the tank engine?
Also, combining actual well-recieved literature with some crappy kids show is just as bad as making them big boobed freaks. Youre defacing the greatest works known to man.
Thats like making the Kardashians perform Shakespeare. Or making the statue of David look like Justin Beiber. Or giving the Mona Lisa some silicon breasts.
For shame.

Not quite, but close. www.boredpanda.com/hipster-scu…
Mixing high with low culture is so much fun. I'd love to hear Te Deum Laudamus as metal. Do you think it's bad?

........Your link just proved my point that we are witnesses to the least cultured and least respectful generation thus far. To think that when these kids have kids of their own, they will pass this crap onto them. Generations will not look at these works of stone (which took lifetimes to build) with the sense of "Why has such dedication faded from the world?" It'll be just another meme for fat blobs of money-munching idiocy to send on their brain transmitters (or whatever tech they'll have) with mispelled words galore.
I no longer fear for new world order. Bring on the Chinks. Clearly, it'll be an improvment for this toilet you call civilization.

There's still beauty and wonder in this world. But it doesn't mean we have to be always quiet and not touch anything. There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens. (But please, no misspelled words. I'm not a native speaker, but people mistaking "you're" and "your" make my faith in this world fade. BTW "misspelled" contains two "s", if I'm correct. And this is really meant to be a friendly remark. I just like the unintentional irony in this.)
Also, I think that this generation is just like the previous ones. But the "least cultured and least respectful" parts of previous generations just didn't leave much behind them. So you are basing your opinion about them mainly on better part of them. Plus "the grass is always greener at the other side" thing.
And we did very important thing in the last ~50 years that no one has done before - developed the Internet. I'm now talking with you. I don't know you, I don't know where you live; probably on a different continent. But we're discussing. Isn't it cultural achievement?

Hmm, I guess my rambling is a testament to how cynical I have become. Believe me, I want to find the beauty in the world but the world keeps finding new ways to soil itself. And most of what my generation is doing isn't quite enough. Yes we have the Internet and yes it's given us the power to enlighten ourselves. And at the same time, it's turned is into depressed hate-mongers. I'm case and point.
Plus some time before I saw this picture, the international prick Justin Beieber wrote in Anne Franks journal "I bet she would live my music." Disregarding her true contribution to the world. And to think that sack of shit is as old as I am.
What's wrong with me?
(PS: I now see that 'mispelled" was misspelled which want intentional. But "you are link" wouldn't be grammatically correct.)

"you are link"? I don't understand.
"turned is into depressed hate-mongers"
Actually the parts of Internet where I go are friendly. DA, Stackoverflow, Open Source movement communities and project pages, pony-related sites...
"Justin Beieber wrote"
Bieber is Bieber*. What did you expect from him?
"What's wrong with me?"
You want diagnosis? I don't know you, so I base my response on myself. World won't be good, but it certainly can be a whole lot better. It's not a lost case. Thinking about bad things and stupid people won't change anything, but will make you sad and angry. So don't do it. Don't read articles with "Shock!" or "10 worst..." in title. Do good little things. Help people on the Internet. Sign petitions. Learn.
I'm also cynical**, but I can hide it suspend it pretty well. If your brain gives you depression, tell him to fuck off. Brains are dicks***. You command your brain, not the other way round. (Yeah, that's not how anatomy works, but you get the point, right?)
---
* That sounds like an insult... Perhaps it is.
** I saw things ranging from people denying holocaust to website selling dragon dildos...
*** And sometimes dicks try to be brains.
