Drawing head - tutorial — Description
A small tutorial showing my way of drawing a head without reference.

1 - I start with a circle with vertical guideline indicating the middle of the face and horizontal the level of braws, plus small line below for the chin.
2 - Here I roughly sketch the shape of the face and head. It's just a rough shape which I refine later.
3 - I plan the placement of the features.
4 - I roughly sketch the features. Here I also adjust the shape of face if needed, to better complement the features.
5 - This is my favorite step and it is also embarrassingly messy. I add hair (changing the hairstyle a million times) and further refine the features checking in a mirror if everything is symmetrical.
And then between stages 5 and 6 the magic happens 😉 I take a kneated ereaser and tap the messiness from stage 5 until it's all nicely faded.
6 - I draw again over the faded lines from stage 5, adding shading and details.

Sometimes I do stages 1-5 using red pencil and then go over it with a graphite pencil and sometimes for stage 6 I use ballpoint pen. It varies according to my current mood.
