Description
For NationStates; Modeled in DoGa with custom parts and very plain textures. Two of them.----
Based on the 'Accelerator Rifle Model 2' in wide-scale use by the former Chosen Dominion of Ynij, the 'M1' is that weapon's replacement in the newly-formed New Prophecy of Yeria Military Service - or NPoYMS. Like the 'M2', the 'M1' is primarily an open-bore linear accelerator that fires high-velocity high-density projectiles with the option to fire larger and thus lower-velocity 'smart grenade' munitions through the same barrel. Both are semi-guided with the ability to mildly correct their course in flight, allowing for approximately 1º of correction for every 100m traveled. This is accomplished by designating a target using the mounted firing computer which will then communicate with the projectile in flight with no further input needed (or possible) by the user. Both projectile types have a relatively low cycle speed compared to more conventional chemically-propelled firearms - 60rpm/6rpm - due to the need to charge the barrel capacitors but this is offset by the weapon's greater range and accuracy.
For the possible convenience of the user, the firing computer is provided with a secondary 'scope'-type display; normally the targeting and firing picture is relayed to the user's helmet display. The trigger too is a back-up; once a target is designated and locked, the user will move the barrel within the requisite 1º and the rifle will fire automatically. As this is not optimal in the close-quarters environment, the trigger defaults to a single shot per pull with no correction possible. Each magazine (inserted in the grip in the manner of many modern pistols) carries 60 rounds and the battery (in the stock) has enough energy for the same. The rifle can also be connected to a larger power supply - both the Assault Armor and the Air Cycle have provisions for this - typically boasting hundreds of shots before they need to be recharged. A loading gate on both sides of the tapered cylinder allows for a wide variety of different large munitions to be stored and selected through the user's helmet interface and a camera on the end of the barrel allows the user to look 'around' corners without exposing themselves directly to enemy fire.
What most users don't like is that it is *heavy*, weighing almost twice as much as a similar chemical rifle. It is also relatively expensive, especially due to the firing computer. Field repairs are essentially impossible and maintenance can be tedious. Thankfully this is mostly due to the weather-proofing but this doesn't stop the average grunt from complaining.
