Description

Nina had always been out of step with the world around her. While other girls dressed in the latest fast-fashion trends, she clung to her Tumblr-era look: dyed streaks in her hair, chokers, ripped tights, and smudged eyeliner like she’d stepped straight out of 2013. What once might’ve seemed edgy now just made her stand out — and not in a good way.

‎
At school, the whispers were constant.
“Vintage wannabe.”
“Trying too hard.”
“God, you look like a Hot Topic meme.”

Every laugh dug deeper. She wasn’t just unfashionable — she was an outcast.

‎
One late evening, wandering through New York’s Chinatown, Nina ducked into a cramped little shop, the kind where the air smelled of incense and dust. She told herself she was just looking for more vintage trinkets, something to help her aesthetic feel less fake. Shelves sagged under the weight of strange objects, most looking forgotten.

‎
In a shadowed corner, half-buried under scarves, she found it: a jade pendant, etched with a symbol she didn’t recognize. Intrigued, she brought it to the counter.

The woman behind the register eyed it carefully, then looked up with a knowing smile.
“This,” she said softly, “gives you what you ask for. But be careful how you ask.”

Nina rolled her eyes, paid, and slipped the pendant around her neck. She didn’t believe in curses or magic.

‎
That night, lying in bed with the pendant pressed in her hand, her thoughts spiraled. She wished — no, begged — not to be forgotten anymore. She wanted to be admired, to tower above the rest. She whispered the words out loud.
“I just want to stand over all of them.”

Sleep came quickly.

‎
When Nina’s eyes blinked open again, sunlight washed across her face. But something was wrong. The ceiling wasn’t there. The city stretched out below her like a toy set. For a moment she froze — then laughed nervously. Of course. This was a dream.

She stood, her shadow swallowing blocks at a time, and marveled at the tiny streets, the toy-like cars, the ant-sized people screaming below. The thrill rushed through her veins.

‎
Then she saw them — her bullies. Even at this scale, their faces were unmistakable, twisted in shock and terror. Nina smirked. “Well, this is my dream,” she said. “And in my dream… I get payback.”

She lifted her foot. The street cracked as it came down. Their screams cut short. The power, the control — it sent a shiver through her. She expected guilt, nausea, something. But instead she felt only a rising heat in her chest.

‎
The rest of the crowd shrieked, some dropping phones, others fleeing in terror. The city wasn’t in awe — it was in chaos.

Nina, towering above it all, tilted her head with a grin. “You’re all acting like I’m a monster,” she said, voice rolling like thunder. “But really, I’m just… finally in charge.”

‎
On a sudden impulse, she pulled her phone from her pocket — somehow still perfectly tiny in her giant hand. With the skyscrapers shrinking behind her and the scattering people below, she snapped a selfie. The screen flashed.

She typed quickly, smirking as her shadow swallowed the street.
“Guess who’s on top now? 💀✨ #NewPerspective”

She hit post, imagining the looks on her bullies’ faces if they saw it.

‎
Down below, the surviving crowd’s screams grew sharper, their terror echoing through the streets. But the more they feared her, the more Nina’s stomach knotted with something that wasn’t guilt — it was satisfaction.

Her gaze fell back on the crushed spot where her tormentors had been. Her pulse raced.
“This feels… good...” she whispered, clutching the jade pendant tight.

Each terrified scream only stoked the fire inside her. The line between dream and reality blurred — and instead of fighting it, Nina let herself sink deeper.
