Description I was asked about my work process, so I decided to try and do a step by step tutorial.
Its my first time doing something like this, so I'm sorry if its not well organized. I hope it can be of some help though.

Hey Malcolm!Β  Sometimes I set the shadow layer to preserve transparency, but its not something I usually think of when doing it.Β  The only thing I do for certain is link the shadow layer to the main color layer.Β  I treat the highlight layer a bit looser, since its one of the very last things I do.Β  I don't usually link it to anything or preserve transparency on it- I just loosely shape it, and lower its opacity.

There is an option in the "layers" tab.Β  Its a little button that looks like it has a kind of checkered pattern.
What it does is: it locks your layer so that you will only paint within the areas you already filled.Β  You don't have to worry about coloring outside of your blocked in colors.
