The Ghost Rider is known as a modern urban legend, a cryptid even. A skeletal biker wreathed in fire prowling American highways to hunt down the wicked. The story around the Rider begins with Johnny Blaze.
According to legend and hearsay Johnny Blaze was an expert stunt biker who made a deal with the devil to heal his ailing father. The serpent granted his wish but Johnnys dad would die in a fire at one of the performers shows. Blazes immortal soul was claimed by the devil and forced to eternally ride through the night, collecting the souls of sinners for his armies.
While this was mostly true Johnnys soul was not just corrupted, but bonded to a spirit of vengeance named Zarathos. Zarathos had taken hosts before but was only ever able to give them a fragment of his power. Johnny was the first to fully bond with the spirit, finally giving it an escape from the grasp of its jailer, Mephistopheles. While they were forced to ride during the night, Johnny and Zarathos worked to both punish the wicked and destroy demonic forces on Earth.
Dr Strange would extend a hand of friendship to the rider, his best chance at combating the forces of the hellish deal maker.
