I was looking for a tutorial for drawing water in a single layer, since that's all I have. I think I can modify your tutorial by—instead of lowering the opacity of a layer—applying a coat of (off-)white semi-transparent digital paint to get the same effect.

So thanks for the inspiration!

It's a very nice tutorial, but the water, to me, doesn't look like water. I think your highlights are far too strong and far too many without transparency.
Anyway, keep up your hard work and feel better!
