The-White-DecemberPhase: Extra Assignment 2
---
Arriving in Obertauren was such a relief. Finally some well-deserved rest… and maybe a long bath for every muscle that was sore and stiff from the long journey. At least one of the two in his team was happily relaxed, munching on her hay and humming softly after all the pampering Sam had gone through to make sure that Nessie was feeling like a Queen. She had absolutely slayed her first, or actually second, part of this event and was in high spirits when he left her stable to take care of himself.
Walking past the slopes of Obertauren with his arms filled with gear was a sweaty challenge and he was starting to regret his decision to not take the trip twice, or three times. But what's the challenge in that anyway? Walking was probably good for him anyway after so many hours sitting still.
That bath or shower or whatever they had started to get very very taunting and he could practically envision it. A blurry, familiar shape however had started to take form in front of him. And what he wasn’t prepared to see tho was Koda with a small streaming team in the middle of Obertaurens ski slopes. His face almost split in half as he started to smile! The urge to charge and tackle his friend was huge but he felt it would probably be for the best to just… not do that. He was after all working!
Koda had instantly recognized the family friend and gave him a very enthusiastic wave to come over "SAM!!! Come here you champ give us an impression of your TWD experience!!!" he giggled and turned to the camera man to let him know the show was ON with this dude.
Sam laughed and came up to Koda, still smiling huge. However, he was always awkward in front of a camera but tried his best not to let it show. Talking to Koda would most likely make it feel more like two friends chatting. He nodded slightly in the camera’s direction but quickly gave Koda his undivided attention. “My experience is good! It's been a very nice start and Nessie is taking it like a champ. She’s the most inexperienced of my team so I hoped I could give her a nice start, which it has been.”
"You are quite the seasoned endurancer by now, most people know you as the show jumping and dressage wonder - so how do you prepare for an event like this? Does it break your routine or do you regularily slip in some endurance training as well?" Koda directed the conversation towards an insightful interview although he was tempted to just chitchat instead.
“Hehe sure, tho I still feel like very much a junior in the field… like-wise in dressage if I’m being honest.” He smiled sheepishly and cleared his throat for a pause to reflect on the answer. “Our routine isn’t broken up by adding the endurance per se. We try to blend the training form to keep the horses happy and challenged. Endurance, maybe not on this scale, is fairly regularly exercised.”
"As iiiif the levels you won or placed in were not hella high" he nudged Sam a little hard. "Ooh does Nessie have a secondary discipline she trains for? Excellent choice to keep Endurance at all times in their everydays. " he smiled
Sam made a little ‘Ooff’ sound at the hard nudge but kept smiling. “Well, luck and hard training I guess?” He said in a huff and a hint of a laugh “And yes. Nessie is in training for show jumping. We haven't debuted her in any bigger shows yet but she’s making progress at home! She has entered a few smaller competitions around our stable and done fairly well but still needs to find her rhythm and get more experience to handle the bigger shows.”
"Bawh well if YOU believe in her to go to bigger shows shes bound to become a STAR" Koda grinned "So whats your caravan style, do you team up with a group along the way or prefer to ride solo? Are there many people at this trail that you are familiar with?"
“The style I prefer is teaming up. Going solo involves more experience than I feel comfortable with and having someone with you is always safer. I have teamed up with Alva and Hiriel for the first leg and we had a great time! I do know them from earlier, Hiriel more than Alva, but still, great girls to ride with and I hope to be able to cross paths with them again!”
If this wasnt a serious interview hed have made some comments on him pulling the ladies in LOL "So its for safety and not because you are a massive extrovert?" he did joke a little "One more question! What determined it for you which horse you take for each phase?"
Sam laughed with a burst of air “Indeed, it is for safety, even tho the company is great! But yeah, maybe both?” He smiled at Koda’s last question “The simple answer is experience. Nessie is still new and needs a few more kilometers in her, Robin is from the wild, literally and she has experience as well as has done this a few times before. And Maja is the veteran of them all, hence she’s the choice for the more demanding part.” He smiled wide at Koda after answering his last question.
"Ah yes a relatable strategy and I'm sure the equine companions are grateful for your foresight" Koda nodded "They are all so lucky they ended up with you, i remember Robin getting her second chance with you and absolutely blooming"
Sam nodded with a soft smile at the compliment from Koda, who very well knew all the things going on already but damn, what a pro interviewer he was!
“Thank you, I’m really happy to hear that. I’m truly happy that Robin ended up with me, she had a rocky start and we took our time but she has truly, as you said, blossomed. I can barely understand it myself sometimes what she’s managed to accomplish.”
"thats what you call a happy end" Koda placed an arm around him "Thank you so much for your time Sam...please enjoy your well deserved rest!"
“Thank you” Sam said back with a little nod. As soon as Koda dropped the mic away from them, Sam leaned in towards him whispering “...you up for beer later?” with a suggestive smile. If Koda was present he absolutely wanted to stay and chat as friends too!
Koda chuckled patting the friend's back a little. He thanked the colleague for the take and quickly responded to Sam "i can join you a little later!" as right now he was on the HUNT
Sam blinked a suggestive eye to him and was on his way. Standing still for the interview had started to cool him down way too much and way too quickly. That shower was waiting.
