Story:
Yuu stepped around under Sam, telling him that she was ready to get going, so why didn’t he let her go already? He couldn’t help but to let a small chuckle escape him at the impatience of the grey mare under him and lightly pulled the reins to make her come back to wait-mode. She sure was a workaholic and he adored her for it so much but sometimes waiting was just as important, and Yuu definitely needed to know that.
She dragon-snorted when she realized her demands had come unheard and started to stomp-paw the ground instead which made Sam sigh with a strained smile “Hey-hey-hey… easy…” he muttered to her as he made her snap out of it which she unhappily obliged to.
Sure, it was still early for both of them. Sam and Yuu had been placed in the first group and were ready to hit the trail any second now. And still… this early, the little mare was ready to do some work!
He would never take for granted the things he got the opportunity to see whenever he was on horseback. So many sceneries, so many animals, he firmly believed would not be half as magical if he didn’t have had the company of a horse with him, and the grounds of KhanCohban Farm was no exception. It was breathtaking to be here.
Their journey of the trail ride began really well. Yuu felt like she could spring wings and just sore over the ground with him and they both seemed to enjoy the first leg, taking on some obstacles on the cross country path as well as stretching out when a particular stretch opened up for them.
As soon as they hit the more demanding parts Sam took the pace down and both cleared the more challenging parts pretty alright. Some slips happened on top of the icy and frostbitten cliffs but Yuu seemed to not even remember it happening and walked on like nothing, ears steeled forward, ready for anything that Sam would tell her. The sun made them both bathe in a golden and pink hue as they both had an impressive view over the bay they soon would come down on.
The ocean breeze hit them as soon as they came onto the beach. The sun even higher on the sky that still was painted in pink. It wasn’t that often that Sam got the opportunity to ride on a beach but when it was there, he would gladly take it. It was something special with that and he would lie if he wasn’t envious of the fact that this was actually something that some of his peers had access to. He would definitely savour every moment, every second of this ride with his grey little mare.
They started slowly, a gentle relaxing walk along the sands. He listened to the sounds that they left, that special sound that hooves meeting sand makes was just something that made his smile draw even wider. It did remind him of the arenas but still… There was a difference.
And he couldn’t forget the gentle lulls of the waves coming up on the sand. That gentle crashing sound was something he would never tire of hearing.
He continued to revel in the sounds and scents around him up until Yuu started to tug at the reins. She was bored with the walk after maybe a forth of the bay and decided that something new must happen. He chuckled once more at her eagerness, collected the reins and picked her up in a light, airy canter which she seemed to agree on. After feeling the footing under them and feeling how well he had Yuu with him he took the decision to stand up… and let her have the reins. Yuu responded like he thought she would and immediately took the chance and propelled forward like a grey lightning bolt. And once more it felt like flying.
