This is my entry for the Steampunk Design Contest: [link] on WeLoveFine... : OI was really surprised by getting a note from them about joining a contest, so I thought I would give it a try. O_O At least I could write in my CV that I took part in it one day... xD''

As to reply to your question - I wanted to make the main light source from center-above-left near the viewer's eyes. So yes, that is correct. And I'm glad that it shows. I also applied a secondary light source from below the model. It could be light reflected in water or simply some blue source of light, definitely different than the main source. It does add shadows to the whole model except the blue areas, but as the main source is stronger - those places are also lightened up where it falls. So the secondary light source mainly adds the colour and not the lighting set up.
I hope this cleared the matter in this case. ^^
Once again thank you for your critique! <3 I tried particularly hard to make the lighting correct in this piece so I wanted to try to defend my standing, but if you see something weird with it then I definitely have to think more about it with the next piece. Thank you very much!

I can't write a critique, but I love the nature-meets-steampunk theme you've got going on here! However, my eye is constantly drawn to the rider, not the vehicle. I think that's because, not only are there smaller details on the rider, but he's almost all red, which is a very loud color. I love the color on the turtle-bike, but if you are looking to make changes, I would make the rider's ensemble a little less red.
Still, a lot better than I could do. As always, I love the texture and paint-y feeling of the piece, and the lack of background really works for it. Great job!

Would you say that making the rider the main point of the picture is a bad thing? Or is it alright, but it should be more balanced, so maybe I should make turtle's eye more... eye-catching, or something? I did want to focus on the rider, because I like drawing people the most (after all xD...), but maybe you're right that since there are actually two characters here, it should have been made somewhat different... I also now noticed that all red accents are in the middle, which makes the composition really symethrical - I'm not sure if that works for it or not... DX'''

Well, if you wanted the rider to be the focus, then it works out pretty well. However, I think you could work on the turtle a little more without taking attention from the human.
