Description It had started with a song.

It had been a typical day on Tracey Island. A building had collapsed in Malaysia and since only Thunderbirds 1 and 2 were required at the scene, Gordon was sitting in the kitchen, flipping through a magazine when Daphne had breezed past him, singing under her breath.

"Heathcliffe, it's me, Cathy
I'm come home
I'm so cold
Let me in your window..."

Presently he had asked "What song's that, Daphs? One of yours?"

"Oh, no!" she laughed. "God, I didn't even realise I was singing! It's by Kate Bush; it's called Wuthering Heights; like the book."

"Oh. Never read that."

"Oh, you should. Or at least see the film; the one with Ralph Fiennes in! He's amazing in that part; he's so tortured as Heathcliffe!"

"What kind of name is Heathcliffe anyway?"

"Watch it and you'll find out."

"No, thanks, Daphs. Romantic classics really aren't my thing."

"Alright," she said, sliding into his lap. He discarded the magazine and wrapped his arms around her petite frame. "I won't force you. But you don't know what you're missing."

A week or so later, it had happened. He had been sitting in the living room, flicking through the channels when his eye had been caught by the title of the film about to start on SkyClassics. "Wuthering Heights; starring Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes." That was the version Daphne had told him about. Well, he decided, he might as well give it a go to see what all the fuss was about.

To his surprise, he found himself quickly sucked into the story of the Yorkshire moors and Heathcliffe and Cathy's wild romance and passion muddled together with conflict and mystery. The scene that particularly interested him was the one where Cathy talked to Nelly about marrying Edgar, a man she clearly didn't loved but believed was a better match than Heathcliffe.

"Why do you love him?" Nelly asked.

"Well," Cathy replied, "because he is handsome and pleasant to be with."

"Bad."

"And because he is young and cheerful."

"Bad still."

"And because he loves me."

"Indifferent, coming there."

"And he will be rich and I shall like to be the greatest woman of the neighbourhood and I shall be proud of having such a husband."

"Worst of all!"

Gordon couldn't help but wonder what Nelly meant. If those were all bad reasons for Cathy to be in love with Edgar (as she claimed, he didn't really believe that she was) then what could possibly be counted as a good reason for it? Then it dawned on him that Nelly already knew that Cathy and Heathcliffe were in love and were one heart, body, mind and soul and was simply trying to shake some sense into the girl.

The film ended with a hopeful note when Heathcliffe died and Hindley and young Cathy left Wuthering Heights together, probably to get married, and the narrator hinted at the fact that now, at least, Cathy and Heathcliffe were together in the afterlife. After the credits rolled, Gordon switched it off and sat for a couple of minutes, staring into space and thinking. Finally he got to his feet and went out to find Daphne.

She was lone, reclining in the hammock with a book. When she looked up and saw him, she smiled and closed the book. "Hey," she said, clearly happy to see him.

"Hey," Gordon replied, sitting beside her and dropping a kiss on her forehead. She frowned. "Is anything wrong?"

"Why do you love me, Daphne?"

She looked startled and it was a few moments before she responded. "I...I don't know. I just do."

"You must have some reason for it."

"Well, I suppose because you're kind and considerate of my feelings and you always cheer me up when I'm feeling low and, I don't know, I'm always happy when I'm with you, happier than I ever am with anyone else, no offence to them. And it's always felt like...I know it sounds strange, but it's always felt like you were a part of me and I was a part of you before I even knew I loved you. That's why." Her green eyes met his brown ones, nervously. "Is that alright?"

He beamed. "That's perfect, Daphne."

"Why did you ask, anyway?"

"I don't know," he lied, avoiding her gaze. "I just wanted to work out if they were good reasons or not."

Her eyes widened. "Oh my God! Did you watch Wuthering Heights?"

"No. Maybe. Yeah, ok, I did."

"Oh!" She covered her smile with her hand. "And Nelly's scene with Cathy got you thinking?"

"Yeah."

"Gordon," Daphne swung her legs out of the hammock so that they were sitting side by side. "Perhaps Emily Bronte had a different idea of what some people might consider good or bad reasons for being in love with a person; but me, I don't think reason should have anything to do with it. The fact is that I love you and you love me; and neither of us should be wondering why. Love is love, there's never any reason for it; it's either meant to be or it's not."

"You're brilliant, Daphne," he said, hugging her.

"I know," she teased, kissing him lightly on the cheek. "Hey, you know what this means?"

"What?"
"It means that you DO like romantic classics, after all!" She sprang to her feet. "Come on; I have to introduce you to Pride and Prejudie and Jane Eyre and, oh, you're just going to love Anna Karenina and Rebbecca; that's such a great one! And Shakespeare; have you ever seen Romeo and Juliet or The Tempest? And you ever seen Two Gentlemen of Verona?"

"Daphne!" he groaned, wondering what the heck he had started.

"No, come on; it'll be great! We'll finally get you in touch with your feminine side!"

"I don't need a feminine side!" he insisted.

"Gordon," she put her head on one side, "there is nothing more attractive to a woman than a man who's willing to stop being so masculine once in a while and show his sensitive side."

"Really?"

"Truly."

Gordon grinned and got to his feet. "Ok, but you owe me one for it, right?"

"So I'll pay you in sexual favours," she teased back, laying her hands against his chest and leaning up to kiss him.

"Do me a favour though, Daphs."

"Anything."

"Don't tell the others!"

"Promise!"

"Come on, then; begin my emotional education to romance!"

(Came into my head whilst re-reading Wuthering Heights! Heehee!)
