Description

The Grimshaws is an area of dense, trackless woodland in Westron with a humid, subtropical climate, bordered to the east by mountains and to the west by a major trade road and beyond that, coastal plains where dozens of small farms have sprung up in recent years.

The Grimshaws have a reputation for being very difficult to navigate, they are a tangled maze filled with hidden dangers, one of the most well known beingΒ the bipedal reptilian predators known as Rippers or Razorclaws.

Lone travelers, horses and livestock are often found brutally slashed, torn apart and half eaten along the borders of the Grimshaws but many still brave the Trade Road, forming caravans for safety.

Local farmers and hunters alike will occasionally lay traps and prepare ambushes for the creatures but they can be very canny and there is nothing quite as dangerous as a cornered or injured Razorclaw.

The striped, leathery hides of Razorclaws demand a high price, encouraging the bravest and most foolish hunters to travel to the region. The stripes of living Razorclaws are sometimes said to shift and move.

The Explorer Sir Gareth Levin owns a cloak made from the hide of a Razorclaw he killed while attempting to traverse the Grimshaws decades ago.

Attempts have been made to keep Razorclaws in menageries, almost all ending disastrously, as a result there are now rumors of feral populations in the Old Kingdoms.

He looks like an agile hunter.

They can certainly move around easier in the Grimshaws than most.

Impressive-looking beast, I certainly wouldn't want to tangle with one!

Thanks!Β

I have this little scene in mind, where a party of adventurers has been tasked with ridding a local farmer of a particularly persistent Razorclaw that has been attacking his livestock.

They stake out the area and wait for nightfall, the hours pass uneventfully until finally they hear the distressed calls of a sheep.

They rush over and find a bloodied corpse and think they've missed the Razorclaw but then they notice the sheep's body convulsing...something is still feeding on it...

They approach, weapons drawn, lanterns held high.

Suddenly a dozen baby Razorclaws squeal and take off in every direction, disappearing into the grass and low-lying shrubs.

Catching their breaths after that, some of the adventurers sheathe their weapons.

One of them continues to scan around with his lantern and that's when he sees it, a black silhouette with two shining eyes, reflecting the lanterns light.

The adult Razorclaw had circled around behind them.
