Dear Dad,

Your treasures are far superior to mom's..the intricate boxes with inlayed birds, velvet cases with cuflinks and rings, more outfits than I can count, polished shoes, and the briefcase..all packed economically in the hall closet. These things are shadows of a most interesting life.

I know that there is much you will likely never tell me. What it was like those 4 years, why you went to South America, New Guniea, Europe.. why you never speak of the Congo.

As you say,a good watch will always stand you in good stead. As i'm sure this one has, however, in more recent years, I find it ironic that a man so well travelled would be reflected in his watch.

You have always been, and likely always will be a mystery to me.
