Pony Project 30 + 31 - Vee and Ruki — Description

Next up, two of my own LPT designs!
Victory "Vee" Hive and Ruki Hive are hatchmates, hatched from the same eggcluster. They are both natural born leaders competing to one day become hive matriarchs.

These are currently the only changeling ocs in my mlp AU so I am using them to showcase the diversity in traits between individual changelings. Even in their pupa (juvenile) forms each changeling is distinct from another, exhibiting unique traits that sometimes stick around after their metamorphosis. After the metamorphosis is when changelings gain their adult colors and patterns.
Adult changelings also cultivate a unique preferred alternate form, choosing a different species of pony to emulate and designing that form to uniquely express themselves. Changelings have competitions showcasing their alternate forms for categories ranging from practicality to beauty. Changeling magic is centered around illusion, disguise, and stealth. Vee is an example of a practical form, her batpony preferred alternate sticks to the same shape as her natural form so it is harder to tell the bat body is an illusion. Ruki is a form chosen for beauty, anypony touching him would find quickly that his faun form was a visual illusion. Changelings design their own cutiemarks based on the insect they feel most connected to/resemble. Some changelings keep their chosen cutiemarks visible even in their natural forms.
Also interestingly, changelings are all gynandromorphic, their role in their swarm determining their sex. Because of this they have an interesting relationship with gender, only choosing gender expressions for themselves per personal preference, changing that expression whenever they please. Many are nonbinary or genderfluid in expression, more-so than is common for other pony species.

Changelings are a mostly socially isolated group in my AU (though that is changing). Changelings make incredible soldiers and back before the great convergence of ponykind, different pony species would buy off changelings to fight or spy for them. While the changelings benefited from a lot of wealth, they also lost many of their own fighting wars for strangers, and their abilities made these other pony species fear and distrust them. Before the great convergence, changelings completely fled from pony society, leaving for generations to start fresh and re-build their own culture. All ponykind was left with were fairy tales full of exaggerations and horrors.

Changelings have a tradition to send newly metamorphosed individuals into pony society in disguise so they can hone their craft as illusionists and educate themselves on the outside world. After the great convergence, with pony species all intermingling, they still did not reveal themselves as changelings, but instead got more complicated with their own alternate designs. To this day not many ponies know changelings are real.

Vee and Ruki are young adult changelings who are currently on their illusion trials in pony society. Vee chose to be a batpony and is living and working in the Citadel, and Ruki chose to become a faun/pegasus and is living in the forest. They were best friends as pupa, being the closest friends in their eggcluster. They are functionally siblings and refer to themselves as such. Both are charismatic but very different types of problem solvers. Vee loves efficiency and bold daring moves, Ruki loves creativity and planning things through. They have competed with eachother all their lives, though it has never impacted their relationship negatively. They make each other better and are constantly pushing eachother to grow. Their chosen trials in the pony world are the first time the two of them have been apart for so long making new friends. They write often and even make time to travel and meet and talk about how it's going.
