+ Open Book: She is not great at concealing her emotions, she’s pretty much an open book to anyone even half paying attention to her nonverbal cues. This makes her very easy to trust, as she’s pretty awful at subterfuge.
+ Cautious: Melya looks before she leaps, she will always do her research and approach every objective with the best strategy she can. She aims to be prepared for anything, it helps ease her anxiety.
+ Determined: Despite her flaws she is dedicated completely to becoming a rescuer and healer. She is certain it’s her true calling and that determination helps her through tough situations she would otherwise run from.
= Polite: She is kind and respectful to all even if she doesn’t see eye to eye with who she is interacting with. This is good in most cases, but it also is dishonest and concealing of her true feelings. Her emotions are often plain dispute her niceties.
= Unwavering: Melya is unswayed in her beliefs and convictions, she has a hard time understanding other perspectives on occasion due to this stubbornness, but it also means she is that much more determined when her beliefs align with whatever task is at hand.
- Timid: Melya is terrified of everything and if not focused on a task she is prone to bolt if anything gets tough. This impacts physical fight types of situations as well as emotional vulnerability types of encounters. She will not confront her problems head on.
- Evasive: Melya will not answer questions that she doesn’t want to answer. She is often very closed off about her own emotional well being. She will outright lie if it’s the only way she can think to avoid conversation she is uncomfortable with. Unsocial.
- Anxious: Any negative anticipation effects her drastically, to the point of being unable to function on occasion. She has coping mechanisms and is self aware of her anxiety, but still succumbs to panic attacks in high tension situations.

Island Name & Hometown: Melya was born and raised on Rubia Isle, a small island part of the Radiant Isles. It’s a humid and rainy isle, and the majority of the island is farmland tended to by her large extended family. Their specialty is coffee, which grows happily in the wet sunny climate.
History: Melya has lived all her life up until now on the island of Melya, only visiting other islands for education and research. Her family is huge and have lived on Rubia for many generations. She had no shortage of siblings or cousins to play with growing up, but she always felt a bit out of place. There may have been many around her, but she never felt like she connected strongly with any one of them. She was always well behaved and so often slipped under the radar as her parents and other adults focused on taming the more unruly children. She sometimes wondered if anyone would notice if she just left the island.
She was clumsy as a farmer but did her share of work. When a rescue team shipwrecked on the shore of the tiny island a year before her 20th birthday, she found that tending to the injured pokemon left her feeling more fulfilled than she had before doing farm work. She asked them many questions as they healed, and by the time they were well enough to leave she knew she wanted to be a Rescuer like them! In her free time she learned everything she could about becoming a rescuer, spending lots of time in larger island’s libraries reading everything she could find.
In the end she did tell her family she was leaving. In a surprising turn of events the whole island got together and threw her a farewell party, she felt more seen than she ever had before and left on her adventure with a light heart, and a stone from home tucked carefully into her bag. She promised to write home every chance she got, then set off.

Inventory: Melya always keeps some basic first aid in her pack, bandages, small splints, and water being the most important. She also carries a small rock from her home island, she holds it to focus sometimes. She also keeps snacks for her tail mouth, it keeps it from being quite so mutinous. Also a small amount of fresh ground coffee beans, her family sends her a supply and she grinds a small amount herself every morning.

She makes amazing coffee! She also always sort of smells like coffee beans.
