Saw this on a couple of my faves here on DA, so why not? Here's my own Influence Map, for everyone (me included) to see where my art comes from and perhaps, where it's going.

1) Beat 'Em Ups. Many may see this particular genre of videogames just about two guys (or babes) hitting each other till someone goes down. For me, it's all a source of eye-catching character designs that make viewers fall in love with them in mere moments, awesome action scenes and invaluable stress relief.

2) Final Fantasy VII. This one game, one individual chapter of a series that has since waned, still shines as a great inspiration for me. Guys with big swords, courageous flower babes, evil corporations and spiky hair. I laughed, I cried, I kissed days of my life goodbye. Nay-sayers deserve a katana through the back.

3) Ben Dunn's Ninja High School. While this may serve in a way of how NOT to do Americanized manga for me, it also inspires me of how to stick to your guns and do your own thing... and in your own way, flourish.

4) Kenichi Sonoda. Gunsmith Cats was one of my favorite manga in my learning days- the detail in his art as well as the saturation of hot babes with guns will always remain in me.

5) Adam Warren. My inspiration for taking the manga art style and making it into your own, instead of being assimilated yourself.

6) Oh! My Goddess. Guy meets Girl Who Turns Out To Be A Supernatural Being. Hilarity and Hi-jinx ensues. My favorite overused and eternally recycled manga storyline.

7) Ninja Scroll. The one single feature that, for me, embodies everything awesome in anime. To this day, I've yet to see any single animated feature that hits as hard as this original, violent and sexy masterpiece. Man, were those ninja designs FREAKY!

8) Blade of the Immortal. Hiroaki Samura's punk-samurai opus is something I always emulate for the kinetic energy, the mood, the humor and the awesome pencil art. I can do without the gang rapes though.

9) Alamat Comics. A band of indie artists based in Manila, we came together all totally different but united in one thing- to make great comics in a country that didn't seem to care for them. Great times, and the lessons learned then will stay with me as long as I can draw.

10) Arnold Arre (Mythology Class, Andong Agimat). I count myself lucky that the one local artist that I really respect, admire and wish to emulate in both storytelling and the art of the page is also someone I can call a good friend.

11) Uni Drawing Pens. My medium when it comes to illustration to this day. Damn tablets are impossible.
