"I'm so sorry, Vee."

Apollo Butterfly stood in the large, sweeping chamber, full of glittering crystals, most showcasing monsters frozen in time. But none of those were his focus. His head was tipped back so he could look up at the young girl. Her blonde braids flew out behind her and her face was frozen in shock and despair. The crown-shaped marks on her cheeks were streaked over by tears. Apollo sighed and looked down at the mirror still in his sister's hand. Her wand. He had frozen it with her. Maybe that had been a mistake. But at least now no one could hurt anyone else with that wand.

Apollo rubbed the tears threatening to emerge away, taking a shaky breath. He couldn't look at her anymore. He turned away, clutching the long staff topped with a moon and star that he had gained after his parents had disappeared. He swished out of the room, pushing thoughts of his little sister out of his mind. What he didn't see, though, was the girl's brown eyes shift to watch him.
