Contemplating a lie — Description

Whiles she waited she had tried to occupy herself with different things in hopes of passing the time. At first, she hummed a quiet tune to herself but quickly stopped when she heard a muffled growl from outside. She tried reading some of the papers on the floor next. Most of them were either promotional flyers, records covered in numbers and calculations, or ponderous documents that used a lot of words she didn’t understand.
As dull as they were to read, they helped to distract her from her growing hunger as well as the guilt she felt, at least for a while. But after a time, her thoughts started to drift, and it didn’t take long before her conversation with Ellie came to the forefront. The recollection made Clementine feel utterly wretched, and she tried to think of something else, but the memory refused to let go. The lie she had told weighed heavy on her heart, as if it had solidified into a stone and settled in her chest.
