Isis — Description

Daughter of Geb and Nut.
Spouse: Osiris.
Greek equivalent: Demeter or Persephone.
Roman Equivalent: Ceres or Proserpina.
Norse Equivalent: Sigyn.
Great goddess of magic, fertility and motherhood, she represented the ideal of a dedicated woman, wife and mother.
She was one of the main deities in the religion of Ancient Egypt whose veneration also spread to the Greco-Roman world. She was first mentioned in the Old Kingdom as one of the main characters in the myth of Osiris, in which she resurrects her husband, King Osiris, and produces and protects his heir, Horus.
Isis was believed to help the dead enter the afterlife in the same way she had done with Osiris, and was also considered to be the divine mother of the pharaoh, who in turn was linked to Horus. Her maternal assistance was invoked in healing spells to benefit the common people.
It originally played a limited role in royal rituals and temples, but was more prominent in funerary practices and magical texts. Isis was artistically portrayed as a human woman wearing a throne-shaped hieroglyph on her head.
In the New Kingdom, she assumed the features that originally belonged to Hathor, the most important goddess during the ancient period, thus starting to be portrayed wearing Hathor's headdress: a solar disk between the horns of a cow.
Osiris and Isis became the most venerated deities within the Egyptian pantheon during the Third Intermediate Period, with her absorbing several characteristics of other goddesses.
With Osiris she begat: Horus and Min.
With Ra she begat: Bastet.
