Description
yes, this time we humiliate katey with this awful background. hahaha. I'm starting to understand how to work the layers now, but the grass bland with the characters and the tree highlights and shadings and the wood/tree shadings will definitely need work.Lol, i still need to come up with a story for the new comic.

The trees came out nicely. You should try to vary the lengths of the grass, though. Making it shorter in the distance (near the horizon) and longer up front. That way the grass wouldn't be so uniform. Also, use different shades of grass. Especially, darker in the shaded areas (like behind the tree or underneath Katey). I did something similar in this picture, [link] .
Keep on practicing, you're getting better with each one!

Thanks. I used a darker green for shadows. I had to keep switching between colors, though. So the saved the different shades of green in the palette [link]
I also found a nice grass tutorial as well. This one doesn't use the grass brush, but uses a smudging technique.

Ohh, hehe, sorry. I created a new standard layer beneath the character layer, selected the character with the lasso tool, and then filled the selection with black. After that, I used the move tool to change the shape to make it look flat along the ground and decreased the opacity to make it lighter.

hrm... interesting. i've never tried using a 'move' tool. is it like the move layers tool?

All we can do is keep trying our best in order to reach the liking that we desire. You already have a nice style to go with your comics, my friend, and I think that it looks quite nice. Keep up the good workings, continue on with your practice, and I'm sure that you will reach that desired liking in no time.
^_^
You're quite welcome.
