Description Everyone's been doing these, and as much as I usually shy away from the usual DA memes I thought this one is particularly interesting and fun.. I have a LOT of influences in my art, just like any other artist, but I tried to whittle the list down as much as I could.

1. Sanami Matoh's Fake - It wasn't until I recently started rereading this series that I realized how much of an influence Sanami Matoh has been on my style. I love her angular faces and blocky lines, yet it all looks so gestural and emotive. Her more recent art disappoints me, but I'll always have Fake. (Plus, this story is so super sexy. I love super sexy.)

2. David Bowie & Glam Rock - Probably one of my greatest influences, in life as well as in art. The bright, flashy colors, overt sexuality, crazy outfits, and incredible energy that both David's style and his music exude, along with the entire glam rock craze, never cease to inspire me. Velvet Goldmine falls into this category too, I watch it constantly.

3. Dan DeCarlo - Not necessarily his Archie work - his men's magazine sexy pinup cartoons. He had drawing sexy women down to a science. His long, tapering stokes make me desperately wish I could ink with a brush.

4. David Downton - Gorgeous fashion illustrations that use color as a major design element. What isn't there to love? When I first saw his stuff I was floored - someone in the professional field was doing what I always had wanted to do, even though all my teachers told me I couldn't. He uses huge blocks of color and incredibly expressive lines to give his work an energy that is both dangerous and appealing.

5. Lolita - Of all the fashion I've witnessed, none has made me want to pick up a pencil more than lolita. Incredibly detailed, period sensitive, and luxurious outfits worn to make the wearer feel like a princess. I wear it when I can, but drawing it helps me feel the love too.

6. Bruce Timm - Mega super duper influence here! I have all of Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, and Batman Beyond on DVD, and I'm working towards getting Justice League too. His style is really reminiscent of Dan DeCarlo's, but Timm's is so bright and colorful I can't help but stare at it for hours. Which is good, because each episode of his cartoons are 30 minutes long.

7. *vert-is-ninja - I love this woman. Her comic, Hanna is Not a Boy's Name, is one of those comics that reinvents the comic medium. Every single one of her pages is beautifully composed and could easily stand alone. Her use of bright colors and dramatically exaggerated lines are sooooo wonderful. Ngh.

8. *AdamHughes - Whenever I meet someone who isn't a fan of Adam Hughes, I wonder why. His work is INCREDIBLE. I don't care if you think he only does pinups. That's art too. He knows his shit. His colors alone make me all warm and fuzzy inside. I have this incredible poster of Superman he did and his cape is such a bright red, I get goosebumps looking at it. Adam Hughes - knows his shit.
