Yes, you're seeing correctly. It's two humans and two hobbits.

A giant group of my friend and I had named ourselves after characters of the LOTR series, and my friend and I just happen to be.... Merry and Pippin. So that's the general basis for where the idea came from and then it just kept spreading out and becoming stranger and stranger, what with tictac and pez shirts thrown in along the way. And yes, we both own little cloth pairs of Chinese slipper shoes that look like that, except that my pair is about 20 years older than hers. (And I have a pair of pants like those that are ripped up the side ^_^)
