Even though it's too late for an answer by the tell of the scarf in Kara's hands it's gotta be an explorer and Taro is a main character he won't die just like that. Grovyle only sent back into the future and he was okay at the end of the special if it was, then Taro would be there too. So that means the one who is dead is Zubat. Zubat probably has a score to settle with his team who has betrayed him, Zubat defeated Team Skull but with the last of his strength Skunktank blasted him and with no help or hope Zubat was dying. With all of his bones has been broked that means he can't move but Kara arrives.
Zubat: All this time I thought you hated me. K-Kara...I-I won't make it...
Kara: Zubat please don't talk that way.
Zubat: Does it really matter? What's the point that I lived? P-please leave me...
Kara: I won't do that Zubat. You have been a little batty but just look you!
Zubat: *Hands the Scarf to Kara* This was a special scarf that my family pass it down me. The scarf I kept as treasure. I don't deserve it but death. K-Kara I'm-I'm sorry!! For everything to hurt and taunt you. Kara you are the best....*Dies*
Kara: Zubat...*Tears raining down her face slowly*
