Description
Goober was a man of many adages. Always leave them wanting more. More of what? He did not know. But as a slightly twisted individual, giving people less than they desired seemed appropriate to him. Always leave them guessing. Less an adage and more a natural byproduct, it goes without saying that even at the best of times Goober's behaviour was typically inexplicable and oftentimes highly questionable. Those characters who frequently experienced said behaviour would often arrive at another common adage. Familiarity breeds contempt. Which is why Goober always had a backup plan. Code name: The Great Escape.
No plan is perfect. There is always the inevitable plot hole or loose end. So when a situation proved beyond his limited capabilities, as was so frequently the case, Goober would enact his contingency plan. More precisely, 1 of 127 contingency plan, each one more ridiculous than its prior. Contingency 42 for example, involved a tabernacle of Germanic bakers and three sticks of butter. While number 86 required a disgraced baronet named Jorge, a thrice cursed wheel of cheese and a solar eclipse. In this particular instance, facing immolation by a dragon with petite lizard syndrome, Goober decided his only recourse was Contingency Plan 31. Fake his death. Sure, it was cliche, and he'd used it more times than he could count, but they're called classics for a reason. And as the adage goes, do what you know. As to the specifics of Plan 31, they weren't important. Suffice to say that the most difficult aspect of this contingency was the months spent studying Orcish so as to acquire enough boiled hamstring steaks to make a suitable dummy.
But it was all worth it. Everyone thought he was dead. The dragon, his creditors, the authorities, his disappointed mother, even his goldfish. All he needed to do now was wait for the heat to die down and go collect his share from his crew, who had fled with the loot at the first sign of flapping. In the meantime, Goober would lay low, and where better than the Labyrinth. Sure, it was home to a giant monstrous beast who killed all who ventured near, but something like that wasn't going to stop a man like Goober. After all, he'd already formulated a foolproof plan.

And done. Whew! Another Inktober in the bag. It's been a blast. Learned a bunch. Had a fun time with everyone who followed along, so thanks for that. And now it's time for something new. Not sure what that is yet, but I'm irrationally optimistic about to possibilities.
