Something I threw together while putting off doing uni work.I've been meaning to make something like this about Altamaran warpaint for...forever, and just not gotten round to it. I feel satisfied now. =w=
... uhmmm, well the notes on the pic pretty much say everything that needs to be said <__> but I guess I'll put extra points of interest below for anyone who's curious and doesn't mind a lot of reading.

I've actually drawn type 1 warpaint on a couple of my altamarans before, and even used the Matyr paint... which is just proof of how long it's taken me to make this reference. The tribal warpaint is a Huuuuuuuuuge reference to the time I tried making Altamarans on Spore. My rationalization for colouring them white and grey was that they covered themselves in ashes to mask their scent while huting. It also darkened their skin to help them blend in with the forest shadows.
That ceremonial paint is something that I've tried and failed to get right many times before now. I'm pretty happy that I managed it this time. Ok so this is just makeup. These days I like colouring my Altamarans with slightly lighter skin under their eyebrows, I feel it makes them look more expressive 6_9. I figure it could be that that area gets less sun exposure and so tans less... and also that their equivalent of eyeshadow is to exaggerate the contrast using bodypaint. Matyr paint... yeah I just think it looks really cool<3 Altamaran blood is black, and so I restricted the use of black in their warpaint to mourning or extremely dire times.FYI the Matyr paint is supposed to represent tear-tracks, to show the Emperor/Empress is taking on the burden of their people's suffering. If other species contacted the Altamara and their ruler was wearing this paint, they should treat the Altamara with extreme caution, as this is one of the few times when the usually peaceable Altamaran Empire is likely to lash out and attack with little provocation.
Type 2 warpaint is just a bit of fun really. It looks a lot like a plaster/band-aid accross the nose. My intention was making a simple, tomboyish look that wasn't too intimidating. :3--->
