A 1924 12/50 "Duck's Back" Alvis, painted a striking green, is displayed at Locomotion, the railway museum at Shildon, County Durham. Purchased for just £10 in 1934 by engineering author and heritage pioneer Tom Rolt, the car served as his everyday runaround during his early involvement with the Vintage Sports Car Club, the Inland Waterways Association and the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society. In 1959, Rolt famously drove the car along a still-under-construction section of the M1 near Luton as research for a pamphlet, making it, by some accounts, the first private car to drive on the new motorway. The car remains in the ownership of the Rolt family.
