Description
A close-up shot of a ball python (Python regius), also known as the royal python, resting comfortably inside its enclosure at the Northeastern Wisconsin (NEW) Zoo & Adventure Park in Green Bay.
This beautiful specimen displays the classic 'normal' or wild-type colour morph, featuring a rich tapestry of dark brown, light brown, and gold blotches that would provide excellent camouflage in its native habitats of West and Central Africa. The species earns its common name from its distinctive defensive behaviour: when stressed or threatened, it curls tightly into a ball with its head safely tucked inside the centre of its coils.
