Description
It's been a long time since I've done a tutorial as it usualy takes a while to explain on how I do my stuff and illustrate it in an acceptable way. Anyway. I've been asked many times on how I draw my ring planets and some of you had a hard time to believe me when I say that it only takes about 30 min to an hour to draw the basic celestial body.
However, I tried to do a step-by-step tutorial to show you how you can make your own ring planets.
I hope that the steps are understandable and easy to follow. A requirement to do the adjustment on the rings is that you have an art program that allows you to have multiple layers. I've used the approach here in ClipStudio, Gimp, Krita and Medibang. But I'm sure that there are also many other digital art programs that allow you to draw the rings the same way. Feel free to check out the ring planets I've made with the same approach.
Enjoy and let me know if you have questions or issues. Let me and others know if this is a helpful guide. Also, feel free to post your own creations below in the comment section!

Thank you very much ^^. I've tried my best to boil it down to the most important things. I'm glad to see it worked :3

Ringed planets are the most beautiful, thanks for the tutorial! For myself I`m using rings texture made from noice gradient (or something similar, I don`t remember
and it looks realistic enough) but your way of drawing rings is also great!

I agree. Since I've learned how to draw them, I made most of my space drawings with ring planets xD. It does make a space drawings much more magnificent :3
I find it interesting how people approach doing the rings. I went through three different approaches so far. The first was simply drawing the lines one by one (a nightmare and not even close to looking good). The second one which I've done for a while was to draw the shape of all rings and added different textures to give it a ringlike structure. However, the last one is probably the easiest one for me at least to come up with nice rings ^^.

Absolutely! I personally prefer drawing rings as viewed from planet's surface (also trying to calculate their visibility in dependence of point of observation - yeah, science!), but agree that from space they also look stunning!

(Well, I admit having strange attraction to planetary rings - I can stare on them for eternity... @__@)
Oh yes... I also started from "simply drawing the lines" - but at some point though it's too time-consuming and terribly inaccurate, and then made a texture that I can just put into any picture and only adjust its shape and lighting ;)

Yea planets and rings getting hinted due to the atmosphere and haze is also something that I like to do. Ring planets give so many options to do nice background art :3

The technique is not really difficult or complex. The only thing you need is a program that allows you to have multiple layers and has a function to stretch the ring layer ^^.
I did my ring planets mainly via ClipStudio but I also did a few drawings in Krita on my tablet and with Gimp on a Linux based OS. Gimp wasn't really my favorite but it does work.
Feel free to tell me whether it works on other programs as well.
