Rhonen knew he would be competing at the event but didn't realize there would be competitions outside of fighting and aspects. There was a relay to be held that featured giant birds called Sol Rocs. It was a long 3 part relay that featured speed, stamina and skill while flying over Harara. It sounded interesting to Rhonen so he decided to visit the stables where the Sol Rocs were kept. The Sol Roc bird was a creature to behold. Their colors and general size were impressive. He was a little intimidated by the large birds but who would pass up a chance to fly? Not this guy.

Rhonen joined the beginner class. Many ages were grouped together. A good potion were tourists but there were still some residence thrown in. It took Rhonen a couple of days to get a good grip on it. Then a few more to feel confident enough to practice and find a team to compete with in the relay. It wasn't long until the day of the relay came.

You couldn't have asked for a better day to hold a flying relay. The weather was great and the skies were clear. Rhonen spoke to his teammates before heading off to relay point 2. He was to compete in the stamina portion. The longest stretch and the most time in the air. Rhonen wouldn't have wanted it any other way. He really enjoyed flying and was looking forward to spending that time in the sky. His partner was a rather golden and flame colored bird. They were very proud and strong and Rhonen respected this bird. The bird wasn't the fastest but their keeper said they could fly for days if they needed to and utterly perfect for the stamina portion.

Rhonen brought his bird to his start position and checked that everything was in order. Many assistance linned the back walkway. All of them busy talking with the competitors or transporting water and equipment. General onlookers were not permitted on the dock. They had their own spot complete with a lookout tower for the judge and stands for spectators. They even had a concession stand for purchases of merch and snacks.

Not long after preparing it was time to get into position. Rhonen mounted his bird and he started to feel a little nervous. He exhaled to lower the level but it still hung in the air. He was excited with a tinge of anxiety. He was ready though and waited for his teammate to rush in over the horizon. He knew she'd come in fast so he made sure he went over the passing motions in his head.

The crowd started to roar as excited people pointed at small figures on the horizon. Rhonen snapped into focus. It felt like a blur from the first sighting of the racers to the passing. Rhonen grab his baton from his teammate and then him and his bird took off. The rush of the air and feeling of adrenaline were fueling his excitement. He could tell his bird was just as happy to be in the sky as him. Rhonen grinned and as if him and his bird were in sync, his bird shrieked and tore off into the blue sky.

At the end of the race Rhonen joined the other competitors for a gathering. There was food and celebration all around. Many onlookers gushing over the racers. Rhonen was happy he joined the race and began to wonder what were his odds of smuggling a bird and not getting caught. Maybe another day.
