Description
***COMPETITION ENTRYYYY!!!***This is my entry for *Equinus 's competition to design her gorgeous mare Cora a mate
Meet Marlowe... He is besotted with the sea. Marlowe was born with an anchor marking on his neck, and an arrow pointing north up his right foreleg. His mane is short due to the raging winds and his tail is plaited to keep it from flying around in the air.
Name: Marlowe (Old English for 'Drained Lake'... how romantic 0_o)
Age: 6
Breed: Shire x Irish Draft
Personality: Marlowe is a gentle creature, a brute yes, but gentle nonetheless and with a heart that is not easily melted. Like the sea that he loves so much, Marlowe has hidden depths, he can become angry and then calm in a matter of seconds. This was a problem for him earlier on in his life as he grew the reputation for being unpredictable and was thus shunned from his herd. A solitary life has given him the ability to control this wave like emotion pattern.
He is a complicated character, one who requires a huge amount of attention in order to break the surface. Yes, he is a challenge, but a challenge worth while. Beneath his gruff exterior and general arrogance lies a warm and caring beast, one with a severe lack of self-confidence, fiercely loyal and protective to those who manage to infiltrate his icy outer layer. He has an uncanny way of keeping others at arm's length- one might say that he expects others to respect his space as much as he respects theirs. Marlowe is a very polite character, ever the gentleman- though sometimes has an unfortunate habit of becoming rather clumsy with his words around the more feminine gender.
This boy is highly inquisitive and indeed intelligent. His wiseness is as a result of many years existing as a nomad along the shores, meeting others of his kind only on few occassions and exploring his home range with a fine tooth comb. He is like a sponge, taking things in and keeping them locked away for use at a later date. He never forgets a face, or a name... So be wary.
He is not an open book, and as some say, the harder the read the more interesting the ending. He may be a bit of hard work, but once you have done the initial work on breaking his shell... its easy sailing from there.

I love the look of this painting! The sea and sky, the falling star, and the wonderful horses. I'm a sucker for blue anyway and I really like how you have a nice blend of Shire and Irish Draught -- it looks like Marlowe has a bit of that sabino gene going on in his coloring. Really lovely!
I wandered this way via 's contest page, I'm glad I did.

oh my... thank you, what a lovely comment!
Thank you so much...yes Marlowe does indeed have a bit of the sabino gene in him, most likely from his mother's side (irish draft) though I haven't designed either of them, I may do for reference later
Once again... thank you so much for stopping by, it means so much!

You are very welcome! I really love the fact you did a complete painting for Marlowe and Corazon, just all-round excellent work.
I love the Irish horses. My riding instructor had an Irish Hunter (DraughtxTB) for some years. Dublin was 17 hands, about 1600 lbs, and could jump anything you pointed his nose at. He was also a "character" of the highest degree.
Might I add you to my watch list?

I had a shire x draught... I miss him so much!
He was the horse that I drove everytime I went to the stables.
He was a looker and a half and had such a pretty trot on him
Dublin sounds gorgeous
Oh please... feel free ^^ I shall add you too

How tall was your shire/draught cross? The Irish horses tend to be tall, I've noticed. What color was he?
Dublin was a dapple gray by a stallion named Grey Mara. He was lovely, but oh my if he got bored he "entertained" himself. He would climb on or into things, pick stuff up and move it around, and just be a pill until someone gave him something to do. He didn't want to be a 3-day event horse, alas, so my trainer friend placed him with a man who trains show jumpers. Who knows, he may show up on TV someday -- he loves being admired by people.

lol Johnny was 17.2
He was a bay with two white socks, one white stocking, a white coronet and an almost bald face... but it was really a thick blaze
He was gorgeous!!
oooo Dublin sounds yum
