Sick Spouse Day One.
Well, at least it's a chance to get some colouring done.
This is obviously, I should hope, *rplatt 's lovely Jessica, c/o Who Framed Roger Rabbit. But I've done my best to leave the picture behind while taking the lines away. Something akin to leaving the candles on the table, while removing the table cloth.
It's a new level for me, but it brings about so many questions. Should I colour every piece this way from now on? If I don't, will some artists feel offended that I have chosen a less time-consuming style for their piece? I'd really love to hear some thoughts on this, both on the style, and on what choices to make.
6/25/08 Edit - The hair...the hair. I'd lose my head if it weren't screwed on. Or something like that.

The only thing I don't like about this one is her lips. There's something I don't know how to define that is not right about them... Otherwise wow!

That's awesome, Liesl. That technique produces some really nice results. I think the pencil shading that shows on the hair clashes a bit with the overall figure since everything else is so clean and smooth. Really nice work, though. The shading, color choices, and new technique are are all very successful here.

It sounds like a good lead, but the funny thing is, I have no intention of going this route with the Gypsy commish from Russ. I suppose I'm really just looking to hear someone say that's okay, but who knows. I really think it's going to come down to what style a particular piece calls for.

I see absolutely no reason for you to not post yours as soon as it's done. It's not going to be a threat to me, and I'd enjoy seeing how successful it is, and learning from the feedback you get - same as I did from the feedback Russ got on the original. As the commissioner of the piece, I fully give you permission to get it posted ASAP.

I've been hiding....no where. Just not very productive of late. There's a bunch of stuff in my scraps of what I'm working on, if you want to take a peek.
I see what you mean about removing the artist's contribution, but I'd still be crediting the artist, and the image is the same, merely in a more realistic style than a comic image. I suppose it really will all come down to what a piece calls for.

Jessica's lookin' good--the new technique does make her pop from the screen a bit more.
I definitely wouldn't worry about which art to do which style on, and I certainly wouldn't abandon the great headway you've made in the more traditional style. One style might suit the linework more than another. Nothing wrong with that, and I can't imagine anyone getting hot and bothered about it.
