Most important thing is to make the characters for you, not for others. If your main goal is to get your character as popular is possible I can't really help you because that is not what I do.
I draw something because I love drawing it, and the characters that I have I draw a lot, in a lot of different settings which includes interacting with other peoples characters, my own, make up stories, personalities, struggles, and even animations/comics >u
I've realized the most successful characters are the ones that speak to others, where they have parts of them where people can recognize themselves in be it a problem they have, a feature that they struggle with or they are overall just fun. A character never gets popular or loved overnight, it takes years of dedication. Most of my old characters I don't use as active anymore but they still made an impact on people back when I did, so when I draw them now some people still remember and like them.
I never submitted my characters in any group or tried to get them known, all I did was just have fun with them on my own time. Drawing them a lot is key, and loving them even if they are popular or not >uπ: 1 β©: 0
