The IX4 TPAWS is part of the Nibiru Army's advanced next-gen personal weapons program, codenamed "Jahanim," a private endeavor to develop weapons to aid the Nibiru's new mission goals - that of exterminating the Adept race. Upon discovering Adepts prefer cold temperatures due to their higher body temperatures than normal humans, Nibiru's top brass came to the pseudoscientific claim that fire is the best way to kill an adept.

Regardless of falsifiability of the above claim, the superheated projectiles of the IX4 were shown to be many times more lethal than the FAMAS and FN P90 machine guns carried by Nibiru's "grunts." Due to such discrepancies between the normal troops and the elite extermination squads, Nibiru's normal soldiers viewed the elite troops with disdain and jealousy.

Much to Nibiru's disdain, the adepts had acquired a number of these deadly rifles to use against them, but due to the sheer lethality of the weapon, and the painful injuries it causes, the good-natured adepts chose to use the IX4 sparingly against the bad guys.

Operation

The shot is fired by an electromagnetic burst that converts room air to superheated plasma, exceeding the sun's surface temperature for about 150 nanoseconds and expanding forward, propelling the superheated slug of metal forward. The particles of alloy in the slug turn to slag, the shot emerging as a "bolt" of superheated, charged ceramic-alloy particles, glowing brightly with a red-gold light that blinds, and has an air core. The shot penetrates into a target's flesh, and when the air core is rapidly cooled by contact with a lower-temperature material the change in temperature causes the slug to detonate inside the wound, dispersing superheated metal particles inside the target, literally melting flesh and causing 3rd and 4th-degree burns.

The drum mag keeps the shots at a superheated temperature using a presumably microwave-based resonance device that oscillates the molecules of the projectiles, pre-heating them up to 8,942 c (they are further heated by the plasma burst which fires each shot.) The IX4 can be fired at full-auto, though the gun's rate of fire slows as it overheats, and at high enough temperatures the overheat port opens to vent the dangerously high-temperatures, similar in operation to the plasma rifle from the Halo games.
