Description
It is so true, that you can't draw something if you don't understand what you are drawing. The more knowledge you have about drawing object, the better you can depict or recreate it. And by recreating, I don't mean blind copy of an object.

I like that subtle addition of purple on both pictures, especially on the apple. You paid a lot of attention to the colors here, it's noticeble. I appreciate this kind of stuff as an artist whose main focus is the colors.
I haven't done an actual color study yet but I did this thing:

Also I tend to use a lot of colors in general, because it gives my art a specific type of vibe. Kinda similar to the way you used purple while drawing that apple, but in my case it's less realistic because I usually aim for more fantasy vibes

Thank you for such an interesting story. Color is still not my strong suit, so there is still a lot of work to do on the way to improvement. It is cool that you have a focus on fantastic atmosphere in art and I think that you can experience an interesting way if you continue to go down this path. However, do not forget that in order to break the rules, you need to know them well.

I graduated art school a bit more than 2 years ago, I know the rules better than you might think xD I have chosen videogame creating as specialisation to be able to create fantasy art as school projects and because it was more interesting choice than UX design. And more about improving actual art skills.
My final project for was this thing, a concept art of a fantasy creature:

I succesfully used creating fantasy art as a way to get bachelor's degree. And I can draw more "normal" and realistic stuff but it isn't that satisfying.

These are a bit old, currently I would be able to do them better. And the eye was drawn without the reference except the inner corner, I misremembered how to draw eyelashes xD The other 2 things here were drawn while looking directly at the drawn thing, no photos used as reference
