History: Lawton was born and raised in a large low-income family in Midway City. As one the youngest in his family he often acted out to get attention. He was hyperactive, aggressive, and stubborn with the tendency to become easily bored. After years of feeling lost and ignored, so at age 18 he left home for good and joined the Marine Corp. Military service gave his energy and aggression focus. He became a scout sniper and served overseas in combat. He eventually became one of the most decorated snipers in US history, with over one hundred confirmed kills and even more unconfirmed. Danger and combat gave him purpose and satisfied his ever present need for excitement. After years as a scout sniper, Lawton became bored. He began seeing less and less action and so he decided to leave the Corps. He took a job with the security-contractor/mercenary organization, HIVE, where his skill set would be valuable. However, his increasingly reckless behavior ran afoul with the contractor’s need for a low-profile. After Lawton was forced to leave HIVE he began working as a freelance assassin and mercenary. Despite his urban origins, Lawton has always been fascinated with the culture of the American Wild West and sees himself as a modern gunslinging outlaw. Under the business title, “Deadshot”, he boasts that he never misses. He is renowned for his relentless pursuit of targets and, unlike HIVE, a willingness to take any job. Lawton has almost zero sense of self-preservation to the point that it allows him to remain calm and alert in seemly hopeless scenarios. As a result Lawton typically accepts contracts deemed “suicidal”. His drive for more exciting and challenging work eventually brought him to Gotham where the combined crime families of the city were offering an enormous sum to kill the vigilante Batman. However, even the master sharpshooter found the Dark Knight more than a match. Initially in it for the money, Deadshot is now obsessed with hitting the ultimate target.
