leech execution — Description
Leech angels are a bumbling and indifferent lot; obnoxiously common and typically the lowest in every celestial hierarchy hypothesized. Unprovocative and essentially harmless to living things they "feed" solely on the undifferentiated meat slop that spews from certain technologies occasionally and bleeds from the sky on bad days. A mere inconvenience to people directly, but a baneful plague on the organized biomass industries.

Functionally flightless, leech angels tend to rapidly phase in and out of space as iridescent tessellations of blood; catching them off guard in their opalescent material forms is a learned and valued discipline, and a rewarding one. Their mineralized eyes and elastic gemstone hides are versatile material, and their tender meat--suggestive of something between lobster and squab--is less preferred by machines and thus canned for meatfolk worldwide as stew chunks or as a popular gritty cracker spread. Rich in heavy metals and psychotropic compounds when raw, the stripped and rendered product is surprisingly safe in comparison yet retains its associations with poverty and madness. The stereotype isn't entirely unfounded as hunters traditionally taste each of their fresh kills with... accumulative effects.

Even by angel standards these entities tend to let a rather disproportionate amount of blood. Even the tiniest individuals with wingspans of around ten feet can release thousands of gallons, and though no angel hunter has been verifiably bitten by a leech angel in all that has been recorded of them, drowning in their remains is not entirely unheard of. Under extreme stress the angels may also expel the blood intentionally as a defense mechanism known informally as the "blood laser"--a mucous spray suffused with abrasive diamond grit, incredibly painful but still non-lethal and awkward enough to be more embarrassing than anything else.
