Thought I'd share some work-in-progress drawings partly to get myself amped for the tons of work I still need to do before I feel good and happy about them.

This drawing and its counterpart (TeamCapParody) was started ages ago prior to the awesome Civil War movie that came out and is old news by now. Wanted to do a different take on the amazing posters and drawings related to the movie. In all honesty, I was really feeling lazy and didn't look forward to drawing full figures in intricate costumes so I came up with the idea that instead of the usual bang-em-up fighting that we're all familiar with, why not something funny that centered on the two team captains destroying the opponent's team bust? Similar to the idea of siblings taking each other's favorite toy and destroying it (which, by the way, is legitimate grounds for fighting in any household with siblings, along with being grounded and punished for life). Here, Iron Man is shooting a laser off his armored finger and melting Cap's statue, while team members gasp in equal fright and awe at the spectacle. Early on, I decided that the coloring will be more 2D-cartoony and wanted to have more expressive eyes for the superheroes in costumes. Also, not too happy with the statue's base at the moment, so I'll model that in Rhino since it has team names written on it and it'd be quicker to adjust the perspective in 3D, save the lines and import back into Photoshop. Then I'll have to add some laser-melting effect and lighting, have Vision materialize out of the table, put some eyeballs, put in some shadows, highlights. Blah blah blah.

The two parody posters are meant to live side-by-side on purpose, though each poster can be displayed solo. The team captains are drawn bigger and would be opposite each other. Also wanted the female member on each team to be centered since both teams are mostly male. And that the act of destroying the opponent's statue had to come from the team captain's superhero power or costume. Initially, I couldn't think of how Cap would go about it and the only thing that made sense is to somehow incorporate his shield. In this case, I made the shield act more like a flattened blade set in a guillotine to balance Iron Man's laser. Almost done with this one. Just have to add Redwing's jet flares (upper right), adjust shadows, highlights, blah blah blah.

If I worked smarter, I should've done a value study early on than having to figure it out in the color flatting/rendering stage. You can add an adjustment layer on top of all of your layers and turn that on to give you a greyscale view and turn it off to give you full color. Here, it's being hierarchical about lighting and placing emphasis on where I'd want it to flow. Sometimes I really do struggle cohesively with the initial vision and unsure of what to do with the background. Doing quick thumbnails in the beginning can alleviate all of that but, sometimes, I like to live dangerously, you know. Which, of course, often doesn't work and bites you in the end. All I was sure of was depicting three HarleyQ's in confident poses just having a blast destroying the Dark Knight's Tumbler. Ideally, I'd replace the Tumbler with BatmanVSuperman's Batmobile (in keeping with Margot's HQ version), but that's waaaay too much work and too late for that now. Maybe, that's another future drawing. A great rule to follow is to always finish what you started.

This drawing is coming along. Surely. And slowly *groan*. As long as I update my client and she likes where it's going then I'm happy. Playing with a rendering style that hopefully works and ties everything in the end. Not sure yet, but I'd like Gadot WW to be in sharper focus. And Carter's WW to slightly be out-of-focus in the area where Gadot's figure overlaps her silhouette. The colors in the background reflect the original red, white and blue when the character was first depicted.
