Ruby has no idea who her biological parents truly are. All she knows is that her parents didn't want her, and her adopted parents got stuck with her. They told her how inconvenient she was constantly, which confused Ruby as they CHOSE to take her into their home. The more they insulted Ruby, the more she rebelled against them. Any chance she could sneak out of the house she took it. She wanted to be there even less than they wanted her there. This is the start of her reserved nature. She couldn't trust people anymore, as the main people in her life she was supposed to trust ended up hating her.
When Ruby turned 10 years old, her parents were getting more and more tired of the way Ruby was acting. She was getting into fights with the neighborhood kids, coming home with stolen items, and often snuck out of the house and wouldn't come back til morning. One morning when Ruby was sneaking back into the house, her parents were waiting in the living room. They told Ruby they were sick of her behavior and she needed to leave. She was to become a Pokemon trainer to teach her a sense of responsibility.
Living on the streets was hard for Ruby. She stole anything she could to survive, including Pokemon at one point. But no matter what happened, Ruby knew that living alone on the streets was better than going back. Slowly she started to learn about zephyr, and the rumors surrounding their organization. She needed to know if all of the rumors about being able to "corrupt" Pokemon were true, and what it even meant. What she wasn't expecting was to find a family.
