turning and twisting
        throwing my pillow at the wall

sometimes i imagine
           you are here by my side and
       i can finally sleep

  reaching out my hand
hoping in some realm of reality yours would be there waiting
        but all i find is vanishing ghosts and midnight air
                      pushing through my fingers like liquid heartbreak

whispering in silences
         i let those words tumble out
     pretending you were listening from just outside my door

  why do i fight so hard
and why is life’s one purpose to break every fragile and beautiful thing

please just say your heart could only ever beat for me
                and that without me you’re falling apart

because i admit:
       i have been,
   since the day you let go of me

   i’ve forgotten how to smile and i can’t seem to get enough oxygen in my lungs
