if salvation was a reflex of emotion

       if time was recyclable and memories could be chosen

     if thoughts could spin cables like webs
       (crossing your path just high enough to catch your throat)

if laughter was not mockery but celebration

     if skin had purposes beyond violation

   if i could not feel my death every time your eyes pass over me
             (and your body passes over anyone you choose)

  if love was not the definition of deception
if answers came through calculations

    if machine guns saved our souls
if a heart-attack could make you whole

  if hatred was not a choice but a lack of understanding

          .if life stopped when i asked it to.

         would this world be a better place?
