Ancestor Apparition — Description

the fatui family has many a tale of their former members, mostly of skilled mages long passed. every so often, you'll get a story of a less savory individual, one whose story serves as a caution to newer and younger fatuis not to go down their same path.
it's said there once was a tsavuta among their ranks - though no one who knew them realized this for a long time. they were unusually talented in magic, and a very notable figure in their community as well, their charismatic and witty nature granting them many friends.
for a long time they went unnoticed. there were a few odd happenings here and there - some crops would be mysteriously trampled, the occasional beep bop would go missing - but no one ever suspected them, and they were very good at covering their tracks. that's what happened for a while, at least, until their treacherous, beastly nature was discovered. upon which, those they betrayed wasted no time in hunting them down, the traitor narrowly escaping into the night, never to be seen again.
the exact details of everything vary a bit with whoever tells the story - some say they were born a tsavuta, some say they deliberately became one for the physical and magical power it granted them. some crueler storytellers say they're still around, and they take away lazy stumps to eat or turn into a tsavuta just like them. even with these variations, though, the base moral is the same - stay on the path of studious righteousness, lest you become a monstrous affront to the family name, to the Depths themselves.
so, when the very boogeyman you've been told about for so long starts to take shape in your shadow, you have some reason for concern.
