Description
Yesterday I spotted this [link] in the Daily Deviations section and thought 'Wow! You mean I wouldn't have to take five hours to digitally ink my pencil work, just to have the inking look blurry and crappy anyway? Sounds good to me!' So I dug out two of my recent pencil sketches (even though I'd drawn them less than a week ago, I'd somehow already managed to lose 'em), and set out to follow this awesome tutorial. To my dismay, a few steps into the tutorial, it dawned on me that, oh yeah, I no longer have Photoshop, I'm using GIMP. No wonder I'm not finding these options. Shit. Well, there goes that idea.
But the basic concept stuck with me, and after awhile of fiddling around in GIMP, I finally came up with... this. Yeah, it's a lot less work this way, but it shows, too. My pencil sketches just aren't clean or even enough to be line art. But it's still good to try new techniques once in awhile, I suppose.
One more thing. I'm aware my gallery is still overflowing with Quackerjack and/or Megavolt (mostly Megavolt) stuff. I'd like to say I'm working on fixing this, but I'm not. I guess it's not healthy to lie to myself. I love Bushroot and Liquidator. They're still my first OTP in the series. And yes, I still fangirl badly over Liquidator, and over Bushroot's adorable spinach tail. But when it comes to inspiration for those two, I find I have none. I bother saying all of this because I feel badly about it . Bushy and Liqui don't get enough attention as it is, and the fandom is already in abundance with Quackerjack and/or Megavolt stuff. But unfortunately I can't control where my inspiration comes from, no matter how much I wish I could, so Bushy and Liqui are, for now, on the back burner on my end. Sorry folks

I really love your work with their expressions!! It's pretty remarkable how you match their designs from the show so well while putting them in new positions/poses/situations.

Ooh, it's always nice to try out some new techniques. And those two turned out great!
And I'm even more impressed over the fact that you used gimp for them, actually I tried gimp as well, many years ago, but I never really liked it. (It crashed to often while I used large files...)

I've had GIMP crash on me once. Not fun at all
Thanks

You never fail to impress me -- you're just so good at drawing these characters. They're so on-model! And you evoke such a wonderful sense of character~!
Sorry to hear about the lack of Licky/Bushy inspiration. :C I could probably help out by contributing some fanart, once this paper is done. I swear, I could never get tired of drawing either of 'em (which begs the question why I don't do it more often, durhurr).

Aww, thank you! You're too kind, really. I try to get them on-model, so this is a great compliment.
I really hope you do get some time for Bushy/Liqui fanart There neeeds to be more. It would make me a happy fangirl.

I was hoping you'd color these two. You already know how I was fangasming over how you draw their feet. and the corndog joke between us just makes it funnier.
Love it!

Regarding the tut and GIMP, which specific how-to did you want to work with? Most of these are translatable (and pen tool/stroking is what I do - I think it's called 'path tool' in the GIMP - I have the German version). The Lasso/Airbrush is one I need to check out.
Aside from all that...
I LOVE the image and your lines here DO look good, whatever you did, LOL! You really draw these two very well.
Not to mention, the expressions are just hilarious!

I ran into problems on the 'add fill layer' step. You can't do that in GIMP XD I usually use the path tool for inking, but I don't like how it makes the lines look fuzzy, even WITH a hard brush. I dunno. I just miss my vector lines I had with Flash. There ARE vector programs for Linux, but they just don't work the same way, or look nearly as nice.
Aww, but thanks! I just darkened my pencil lines and colored over them with the layer above set to 'multiply' mode. I didn't have to ink at all. I'll admit that was nice. I just wish my pencil lines were neater.

'Add fill layer' isn't there? I've never used it - I don't even know what it's for, LOL! I honestly just prepare the sketch the way he says (turning it blue and lightening it up), then make an extra normal layer and start inking.
You still get fuzzy lines with a hard brush, huh? Did you try the ink tool? It's really nice for lineart. For this one, I've merely started using the stroking option that's in the 'Stroke' menu.
However, your idea for inking the sketches with duplicating/multiplying is a good one.

Ink... hmm. I don't recall that one. I'll have to check it out next time. Thanks!

The icon of the tool looks like a small bottle of blue paint, just so you know (I had trouble finding it, and only just recently learned about it). I've been told it's one of the best tools for linework.

And there is nothing wrong with your having Quackerjack and/or Megavolt pics flooding your site. ^3^ And maybe some liquidator pics later on...maybe?...=3

If I had ideas, my whole gallery would be flooded (pun intended, booyah) with Liquidator art. I Liqui.

I use Gimp's pen tool (which is exactly like Photoshop's pen tool), but... I miss my Flash Linux does suck sometimes.

I find it quite funny how shocked Megs (....what did I just do...?) at the corn dog XD .
Har. I kinda would like to get more Megs and Quacks into my gallery personally, but I do not have the skillz for those particular two. Seems a bit ironic...

I saw this tutorial yesterday and faved it. I shall be trying out this technique since i do have photoshop. My lineart always turns out crappy anyways. I want to improve upon it.
Hopefully i can with this tutorial. Nevertheless, your artwork turned out great. Keep up the good work. ^^b
