Crobat is one of those Pokemon where it is such a simple yet amazing design. Much like the Rowlet I did recently, this Pokemon didn't require much thought before drawing it. All I had to do was look at different types of bats (mostly vampire bats) and slap two extra wings on it and voila!, a Crobat! It was really nice to just focus on the technical aspect instead of the design aspect. Bats have crazy-weird anatomy, but when comparing this to the Lunala I drew (two?!) years ago, it pleases me to see this turned out so much better.

I refused to accept the reality that the official design of Crobat's mouth is its bared teeth. Just play Pokemon Colosseum and you'll know why after seeing Crobat's first 3D model. So I decided to give it a white nose/muzzle. It just makes so much more sense to me that way.

#169 - Crobat (Bat Pokemon)

Despite being an apex predator of cave systems, Crobat and their kin have one predator: Noivern. Due to their large size, most cave-dwellers leave Crobat alone. Their bright colors work both for and against them. Similar to how poison dart frogs use their vibrant colors to warn predators about their lethal toxins, Crobat's bright purple fur is an obvious warning that it is also loaded with poisonous saliva left behind after they groom themselves. Unfortunately, the bright purple also attracts the attention of Noivern. Noivern still hunt them despite the awful pain eating a Crobat causes for them; quite often a Noivern will get so sick that it will vomit to death. Zubat and Golbat very rarely survive long enough to reach the Crobat maturity stage in the wild, and thrive best under the care of a loving trainer.
